Link the PAN with Aadhaar

Link your Aadhar & PAN CARD

The government in the Union Budget 2017 had introduced a law making it mandatory for every individual having a PAN to link with their Aadhaar number. Here are different ways to link the same.

Currently, the last date to link PAN with Aadhaar is 30th June 2021.

Under the current laws, it is mandatory to link your PAN with your Aadhaar number.
Further, it is mandatory to quote the Aadhaar number at the time of filing income tax return, applying for new PAN and also to avail monetary benefits from the government like pension, scholarship, LPG subsidy etc.

The government announced the extension of deadline of linking PAN with Aadhaar by 12 months, i.e., from June 30, 2020.
If anyone do not link the PAN with Aadhaar, then the PAN will become inoperative. One will not be able to use the PAN to conduct the financial transactions wherever quoting of PAN is mandatory such as the opening of a bank account etc.

The government through a notification dated February 13, 2020 has clarified that what will happen once the PAN becomes inoperative.
According to notification, those who link their PAN with Aadhaar after March 31, 2021 deadline, then the PAN will become operative from the date of intimation of Aadhaar number.

From April 1, 2019, it has become mandatory to quote and link Aadhaar number while filing income tax returns unless specifically exempted. According to chartered accountants, an individual cannot file his/her ITR without linking the two first.

Here is how you can link your PAN with Aadhaar.

If you are already a registered user at income tax e-filing website.
If you are already filing tax returns, chances are that your PAN is already linked with Aadhaar if you have mentioned it previously while filing ITR in the previous assessment years. It is done by the income tax department in case details of both are already available with it.

You can check if your Aadhaar is already linked to your PAN by visiting the income tax e-filing website www.incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in

Login to the website by entering PAN (User ID), password and your date of birth. Once you are logged in and your account opens, click on 'Profile Settings' tab and select the last option 'Link Aadhaar'.

The screen will show the message, 'Your PAN is already linked to Aadhaar number XXXX1234'.

In case your PAN is not linked to Aadhaar then a form will appear where you will be required to enter details - name, date of birth and gender as per PAN records. Next your Aadhaar number. Click on submit after entering the captcha code appearing on the screen.
Once submitted, a success message will be displayed on your screen.

For non- registered users
If you don't want to register yourself at the e-filing website, there is another way using which you can link your PAN and Aadhaar. A hyperlink has been provided at the homepage of the e-filing website and also on the income tax website http://incometaxindia.gov.in/Pages/default.aspx.

Just click on 'Link Aadhaar' on the e-filing website. A new form will appear where you are required to enter details - PAN, Aadhaar number, Name as per Aadhaar.

If your aadhaar card has only year of birth, then you must also tick the option: 'I have only year of birth in Aadhaar card'

Enter the captcha code and click on submit. Once submitted successfully, a message will be displayed on your screen showing your PAN is successfully linked to Aadhaar.

Other methods
a) By sending an SMS to PAN service providers
If you are unable to link your PAN and Aadhaar using the e-filing website of the department then there are other ways for linking PAN and Aadhaar.

Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) in its notification dated June 29, 2017 has provided other methods to link PAN and Aadhaar other than the methods mentioned above.

You can link your PAN and Aadhaar by sending a simple SMS. You can send an SMS to either of the PAN service providers namely NSDL e-Governance Infrastructure Limited or UTI Infrastructure Technology and Services Limited (UTIITL).

You can simply send an sms in a specific format using a keyword to the either 567678 or 56161.

The format is: UIDPANSPACE12 digit AadhaarSPACE10 digit PAN

For example, if your Aadhaar number is 111122223333 and PAN is AAAPA9999Q. Then you are required to send sms to 567678 or 56161 as
UIDPAN 111122223333 AAAPA9999Q

NSDL and UTI won't charge you for this. However, SMS charges as levied by the mobile operator will be applicable.

b) Manual linking by filing up a form

As per the above mentioned notification, CBDT has provided for a manual method as well to ease the problems of taxpayers in case the person is unable to sort out the problem of mismatch in the data of PAN and Aadhaar through other methods.

You can visit a service centre of PAN service provider, NSDL or UTIITSL. You will be required to fill in the form 'Annexure-I' along with the supporting documents i.e. copy of PAN card and Aadhaar card.

This service is not free of charge. An individual is required to pay a prescribed fee to them. The fee charged depends on whether while linking, correction is made in the PAN or Aadhaar details.

For any correction in the PAN details, the fee charged is Rs 110. On the other hand, for correcting Aadhaar details, the prescribed fee is Rs 25.

Biometric authentication is compulsory in case there is a major mismatch in data of PAN and Aadhaar.

Points to Note:

1. If using online methods, an Aadhaar OTP will be generated in case your name does not match that on your PAN card whereas your date of birth and gender matches. The OTP will be sent to the mobile number registered/ linked to the Aadhaar number entered online. You will have to enter that OTP online to continue and complete the linking process.

2. It is advisable that in case there is a mismatch in the data of PAN and Aadhaar you get it corrected before trying to link the two numbers.

One may be fined Rs 10,000 if one fail to link PAN with Aadhaar by the end of this month.

Information Technology: A ray of hope in Covid-19 darkness

Information Technology: A ray of hope in Covid-19 darkness

As schools remain closed, information and communication technology-based models have emerged as a solution to bridge the digital divide and ensure quality education, especially in rural India.

During the Covid-19 pandemic, when face-to-face interaction and physical classrooms became out of reach, various school teachers came up with a solution in the form of using ICT (Information and Communication Technology) tools for teaching and learning. The syllabus, teacher, as well as the students remained the same.

The only thing that changed was the method of teaching and learning. Though the teachers not able to connect with many children they sent the work through various I T Channel.

As per a UN report, school closures have impacted around 247 million children enrolled in elementary and secondary education in India. This pandemic has also impacted about 28 million children who were attending preschool education in ‘Anganwadi’ centres. In this scenario, many students did not expect to return to the institution which they left due to the closures. Many students may enrol in an institution closer to home, but others will be unable to return to their studies.

Digital divide is a reality

We can’t ignore the fact that students from remote areas, who are facing lots of difficulties during this pandemic, are not in a position to get benefitted from online learning- teaching methods. We also need to understand that this is not the first time that learning of children got hampered. It has been going on since ages. The states like Bihar, Assam face floods every year. In the regions of Kashmir and Northeast, there are several incidents of violence and similarly there are states where due to excessive heat, cold or rainfall, schools remain closed for months. Rural and tribal areas are facing three kinds of problems. The first is the availability of digital devices. Not every child has access to PCs, laptops or smartphones. Even if a family has one smartphone; it is not for the purpose of learning. The second is the network issue and the third is the data issue. Data is cheap in India but still not everyone can afford it.

ICT is a blessing in disguise

Although technology will never replace the existence of a physical classroom, there is still a need to develop a more child-centric education model mixed with textbook and technology. New generation is tech-friendly and modern devices attract them thInformation Technology: A ray of hope in Covid-19 darkness the time, we need to take it as a challenge to use digital devices as an educational tool, and making it as a platform to learn something new, to sow in them seeds of creativity. To make it possible, the teacher needs to come forward. If we see from teachers’ perspective, ICT tools are empowering them and helping them even in this time of epidemic to connect with fellow teachers virtually and to continue their teaching to reduce the loss of education to children and improve the things further. Usage of ICT tools gives access to students to do any course, at any time by connecting themselves with the best of faculty. It is cost-friendly and hence, irrespective of their financial condition, they can access a lot of contents and materials. It fills the broad gap between those who have access to a variety of contents in different languages and those who do not. Hence fulfilling the purpose of reaching the hearts of students instead of mind.

ICT tools have the power to make teachers reach an unlimited number of students which is not possible in a physical classroom, especially in a rural context, where dropout rates are higher and students do not attend school on a regular basis due to a restricted time table as they serve as a working hand for their parents. Using ICT tools are also environment friendly as it saves paper and hence ends up saving millions of trees. It also saves teachers’ time as they can solve a large number of pupils’ problems, doubts in a go and also in assessment process as their papers, assignment, projects can be checked quickly and feedback can be given immediately.

The pedagogy of teaching and learning also demands a change moving from a teacher centric approach to a child-centred one, making learning enjoyable and engaging for them. There are various examples of people who are coping with the current scenario and coming out with new innovative measures. While following physical distancing, the teachers started taking class with the help of various digital method.

As a result, children are now able to connect themselves and are studying by sitting at their home.

Today crores of students are using the apps made by him not only in India but also abroad.

The road ahead

India must focus on enhancing network connectivity so that students and teachers of rural areas can get benefitted. The Indian telecom sector needs to add additional mobile towers and implement the online education.

Currently, we have more content with engagement and entertainment purposes, and private players are converting this situation into a profit-making business model. They are not giving importance on child psychology, teaching pedagogy while creating contents. We should focus on capacity building of teachers so that India can leverage their skills for content creation.

As the Government of India is planning to convert school blackboard into digital board by 2022, we also need to focus on providing necessary things to schools so that they can use it with full potential. This corona crisis has taught us that we need to focus on the learning of children in the long run and for that ICT tools can play a very important role.

What Is Good Friday and Why Do We Celebrate It?

What Is Good Friday and Why Do We Celebrate It?

Every Christian knows the tale: Jesus Christ died and rose again for the forgiveness of his followers’ sins, promising them eternal life in heaven. Christians typically celebrate Jesus’s resurrection each spring on Easter Sunday. But Good Friday, which falls three days before Easter, doesn’t get the same attention: Only 12 states consider Good Friday an official holiday, and many people don’t know why they observe it to begin with. So what’s up with Good Friday?
Simply put, Good Friday is set aside for Christians to remember and mourn Jesus’s death. It was on this day that religious leaders arrested Jesus for claiming to be the son of God and King of the Jews, as the biblical story goes. The leaders sentenced Jesus to crucifixion, the highest form of criminal punishment at the time, for his teachings. Jesus was then beaten, forced to carry a heavy wooden cross through jeering crowds, and finally nailed to the cross by his wrists and feet where he hung until he died.
Given its grim origins, calling this holiday “Good Friday” probably sounds counterintuitive. But the word “good” has a different meaning here. In this context, it “designates a day on (or sometimes a season in) which religious observance is held,”. Put another way, the term refers to “a day or season observed as holy by the church,” per the OED.
So despite its name, Good Friday is a day for somber reflection. Each Friday before Easter, Christians solemnly honor the way Jesus suffered and died for their sins. They might attend a service that recounts Jesus’s painful crucifixion, and some even refrain from eating to show their sorrow. Churches strip their altars bare and muffle their bells as a sign of mourning.

Essay on Holi
Holi is known as the festival of colours. It is one of the most important festivals in India. Holi is celebrated each year with zeal and enthusiasm in the month of March by followers of the Hindu religion. Those who celebrate this festival, wait for it every year eagerly to play with colours and have delectable dishes.

Essay on Holi

Holi is about celebrating happiness with friends and family. People forget their troubles and indulge in this festival to celebrate brotherhood. In other words, we forget our enmities and get into the festival spirit. Holi is called the festival of colours because people play with colours and apply them to each other’s faces to get coloured in the essence of the festival.

History of Holi
The Hindu religion believes there was a devil king named Hiranyakashyap long ago. He had a son named Prahlad and a sister called Holika. It is believed that the devil king had blessings of Lord Brahma. This blessing meant no man, animal or weapon could kill him. This blessing turned into a curse for him as he became very arrogant. He ordered his kingdom to worship him instead of God, not sparing his own son.

Following this, all the people began worshipping him except for his son, Prahlad. Prahlad refused to worship his father instead of God as he was a true believer of Lord Vishnu. Upon seeing his disobedience, the devil king planned with his sister to kill Prahlad. He made her sit in the fire with his son on the lap, where Holika got burned and Prahlad came out safe. This indicated he was protected by his Lord because of his devotion. Thus, people started celebrating Holi as the victory of good over evil.

The Celebration of Holi
People celebrate Holi with utmost fervour and enthusiasm, especially in North India. One day before Holi, people conduct a ritual called ‘Holika Dahan’. In this ritual, people pile heaps of wood in public areas to burn. It symbolizes the burning of evil powers revising the story of Holika and King Hiranyakashyap. Furthermore, they gather around the Holika to seek blessings and offer their devotion to God.

The next day is probably the most colourful day in India. People get up in the morning and offer pooja to God. Then, they dress up in white clothes and play with colours. They splash water on one another. Children run around splashing water colours using water guns. Similarly, even the adults become children on this day. They rub colour on each other’s faces and immerse themselves in water.

In the evening, they bathe and dress up nicely to visit their friends and family. They dance throughout the day and drink a special drink called the ‘bhaang’. People of all ages relish holi’s special delicacy ‘gujiya’ ardently.

In short, Holi spreads love and brotherhood. It brings harmony and happiness in the country. Holi symbolizes the triumph of good over evil. This colourful festival unites people and removes all sorts of negativity from life.

Why Happiness Is Important in Life

Thoughts on Why Happiness Is Important

Happiness is the most important experience we want for those we love, including ourselves. We always want to be happy and have those around us be happy in whatever endeavor we take on. We need happiness in our lives for many more reasons than just feeling good occasionally.

This answers why happiness is important because it helps us be better people for ourselves, the ones we love, and our community. Now that I have answered the age-old question of why happiness is important, it’s time for you to take action today to do activities that make you generally happy, whether it’s painting, writing, drawing, kickboxing, jogging, listening to podcasts, spending quality time with your family or all of the above!

1. Happy people are more successful

We all have the idea that “success makes us happy” but it’s backward. Instead, being happy makes us more successful in all of life’s endeavors. Happy people have a higher probability of acing job interviews thus acquiring better positions. Happy people are more positively evaluated by our superiors and show higher productivity and performance. The same reigns true for being better managers of others.

Furthermore, happiness makes us more productive employees while improving our aptitude for problem-solving. In an experiment performed by economists at the University of Warwick, researchers found that those primed for happiness were 12% more productive. While on the job, happy employees are less likely to show work burnout and disruptive behavior.

2. Happy people maintain better relationships

Another critical aspect of life is fostering old and new relationships ranging from friendships to romantic involvement. Relationships have been proven to be the most important factor for the continuation of the human species.

Happy people have better social support, more friends and are generally more satisfied with group activities and friendships. The happiest college students tend to have the highest-quality relationships, are less jealous, and have stronger bonds with family members.

Happy people have better social support, more friends and are generally more satisfied with group activities and friendships.

This is especially true for marriage. There is a strong link between happiness and satisfaction in marriage. Those with more happiness tend to be more content with their partner. Like maintaining great relationships with our friends and family members, happiness fuels a good marriage, and the rewards can be amazing! This point is also related to idea #7 that happy people are more generous in that we are more willing to compromise and go the extra mile for our friends, family, and life partner.

Furthermore, it has been proven that happy people tend to be less violent. When you hear about a killer’s life, those that knew the individual rarely say they seemed so happy. Most happy people strive to make love, not war. That means when a disagreement ensues during a relationship, let’s be honest, it happens to us all, violence rarely ensues with happy people. They find a compromise or solution together which further strengthens the relationship.

3. Happy people have less stress

Part of the reason happy people live longer and are healthier is because of a lower stress level. There is a direct correlation between stress and illness and vice-versa. When we get stressed, our cortical hormone levels increase which is typically accompanied by muscle weakness, higher blood pressure, and mood swings. On the other hand, positive and happy feelings alter our chemical makeup that lowers these levels. Happiness is the exact opposite of stress, so it is difficult to have both simultaneously.

I work for a major cosmetics company in a relatively stressful field that is heavily dependent on timelines to make major launches. I will be the first to tell you that the stress at times is difficult to manage but I am generally a happy person and can find creative outlets that make me happy and relieve stress. One is through engaging in kickboxing classes several times per week. It is an activity I love to do and makes me happy plus provides a great workout, all of which lowers or eliminates my stress!

4. Happy people live longer lives

Logic dictates that if happiness has a positive impact on my health then it will also extend my life. One study was performed that found a correlation between the life expectancy of a group of Catholic nuns and their initial emotions when they first started at the convent.

The happiest nuns lived 7-10 years longer than the unhappiest. This is one of many studies performed that confirm happiness is one important component of living longer lives. Couple that with regular exercise, eating healthy, lower stress, finding creative outlets, and fostering healthy relationships and we can live long and healthy lives as happy people!

5. Happy people are more creative

In addition to being more productive in life, happy people are more creative. Positive thinking and being open to new experiences and ideas are related. This is because as our general mood becomes more positive, we can devise and envision creative solutions to a variety of problems.

This counters the “tortured artist” idea which postulates that the artistic community, which has higher rates of depression and other mental illnesses, is generally unhappy which fuels creativity. There is little evidence of a connection between the two more evidence of happiness improving creativity.

In addition to being more productive in life, happy people are more creative.

When I am generally happier, I often access the creative side of my brain outside of work. I tend to lie in bed watching television less and draw, read, and write much more. Yes, I love those rainy Sundays in the fall, snuggling under the covers and watching a scary horror film, there’s a place for those days too, but I try to fill my time with more creative outlets. These creative activities tend to fuel my happiness even more so it’s a win-win situation.

6. Happy people are healthier

Happy people have proven to maintain better physical health, have less hospital and emergency room visits, and fewer unpleasant physical symptoms. Also, we tend to use less medication resulting in fewer work absences which relates to point number one of being more successful. Better health typically relates to less overall physical pain.

Similarly, happy people have better mental health than others and have fewer symptoms related to mental diseases like schizophrenia, hypochondriasis, anxiety, social phobia, and depression. Many of these mental health issues are tied to substance abuse problems so, you guessed it, happy people are less likely to have a history of drug abuse.

Additionally, happy people are much more resilient than unhappy individuals. Resilience is our ability to bounce back and recover from challenging situations. The goal of happiness is to make the most of good times and effectively cope with the bad times, which we all experience. The result of this is living the best life possible, regardless of the situation. To truly be happy, we must learn to jump back up on the horse after falling off and returning stronger than ever. This means eliminating the negative feelings that are burdening us during or after a tough situation.

Furthermore, evidence exists that negative emotions and general unhappiness can be harmful to our health. While there is limited research on the subject, it is difficult to determine if happiness has a positive effect on our immune systems. The studies that exist have found that those with the most positive emotions had a lower probability of getting sick. This could also be due to other factors or motivating ourselves to exercise, eat healthily, and maintaining positive relationships.

7. Happy people are more generous

Happy people are typically more prosaically which means they have a higher inclination to help others. There is a strong link between feeling happy and doing good for the community or the world. This means higher participation in volunteering than unhappy friends, joining community service, religious, health-related, and political groups, and giving back to charity.

Not only does helping others make us feel good but happy people often share their good fortune with those who are unhappy. I like to think that happy people make the world a better place for everyone
